US Midterm Election Reflects Changing Trends

The US is entering a Saturn Return cycle that will last for the next two years. This signifies a major period of growth and change that occurs every 29-30 years for countries, as well as individuals. Transiting Saturn also forms a first quarter square with the US sun, which means this is a critical "crisis in action" period. We now have the opportunity to make a new statement and turn our country in a more productive direction. Saturn can bring a more conservative trend in politics, along with a more practical, results-oriented focus. The beginnings of this trend can be seen in new grassroots types of movements like the Tea and Coffee parties. Saturn also rules the influence of the past, as shown through a previous California governor (Jerry Brown) being re-elected.

Other transits to the US chart occurring now include Pluto/North Node in Capricorn opposing the US Jupiter in the 2nd/8th house axis. This speaks to the growing influence of corporations and big money in our elections. Our values can play a major role in determining the balance of power. Capricorn favors taking a sustainable approach. Transiting Uranus/Jupiter in a favorable trine aspect to the US Mercury reflects the growing new technology/social media influence. It could also have contributed to more change and upheaval in the recent midterm elections, especially for some long-term incumbents such as Russ Feingold. However this aspect can bring more progressive ideas and individuals to the forefront.

The Election Chart for November 2 shows Uranus/Jupiter opposite the moon (the public). Citizens were ready to vote for change, but perhaps without too much discernment. Will the new congress person bring favorable change after all and at what cost? The Neptune/Mercury square likely brought confusion, delusion and deceptive communications.

The Republican and Democratic party charts also reflect similar trends. The Republican chart shows transiting Uranus/Jupiter aligned with Mercury. This brings a unique, inventive approach to communications. A recent example is Sarah Palin inventing (Uranus) the new word "refudiate" that actually ended up in some dictionary, along with her books and reality shows. However, there can also be reactive speech or communication upsets under this influence. The Democratic party chart is being influenced by transiting Neptune conjunct the moon and square Mercury. A lack of effective messaging has plagued the Democrats this year, which also added more confusion and misunderstanding to midterm voters. This aspect is also reflected in the recent scandal with Charlie Rangel and Obama's tax breaks that were never announced.

Perhaps some of my readers can think of other examples for the above trends?

Elizabeth Warren to Head Consumer Agency

The planetary themes show that President Obama's appointment of Elizabeth Warren will likely be both pivotal and powerful. Even though the position is said to be advisory in nature and without power, the planetary themes suggest a potential for more far-reaching influence.

Elizabeth Warren was born at the beginning of Cancer on June 22, 1949 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (time unknown). Her Cancer sun is exactly conjunct Uranus at 0 degrees of Cancer, which is considered a world degree. People born on this world degree of the cardinal signs of Cancer, Capricorn, Libra and Aries will more likely become famous in their lifetimes. A Cancer sun sign is normally introverted, but when combined with Uranus, it takes on a more outward revolutionary tone. An important life mission for her is to bring about progressive innovation through initiating significant change -- to be a mover and shaker! This conjunction favorably aspects Saturn in Virgo, which rules structure and solidity. Together they form a unique destiny-oriented yod aspect with Jupiter at 0 degrees of Aquarius. Her Aquarian Jupiter is strong in this position, which shows her academic background, along with an unconventional approach and a strong sense of justice for the underdog. Her Mars/Mercury aligned in Gemini shows she can stand her own ground, while being articulate, inventive and humorous.

In synchronistic fashion, this appointment took place the day before an outer alignment of Jupiter with Uranus on September 18, which was in aspect to Elizabeth's natal sun, Uranus, Saturn and Jupiter. Life-changing events often occur when outer planet aspects both trigger and mirror our birth planetary aspects. Elizabeth also experienced a powerful transit of Pluto opposing her sun in 2008-09, perhaps setting the stage and awakening the potential within Elizabeth for this significant moment.

The appointment chart features Sagittarius rising, with Jupiter in compassionate and idealistic Pisces in a place of foundational strength. The sun in Virgo and Saturn aligned with the midheaven in Libra shows the potential for a solid, lasting influence. Libra is the sign of fairness and equality, with the goal of bringing a situation (our consumer protections) back into greater balance. This sun in opposition to Uranus/Jupiter likely reflects the opposition from the bankers who opposed her nomination. However, favorable Jupiter/moon and sun/moon alignments show she will likely have strong public support for her reforms.

A look at Elizabeth's chart in comparison with the US chart and Obama's chart also reveals significant planetary alignments. Amazingly, Obama's natal Jupiter is also in Aquarius at the same degree as Elizabeth's natal Jupiter, suggesting that their inner visions are in close alignment. His Venus is also aligned with her sun/Uranus, which indicates a close friendship tie and similarity of ideals. This position is also aligned with the US Venus at 2 Cancer, indicating that Elizabeth can be an important ally for Obama in helping him upgrade his economic strategy and perhaps his popularity ratings too. Elizabeth Warren could be Obama's most important appointment since he came into office.

Does Obama plan to eventually move Elizabeth into being the actual head of this agency, which would give her substantial power? Or perhaps he will appoint an agency head who will go along with Elizabeth's reforms, yet win support from the Republicans and bankers (if this is possible). The latter was said to be a main consideration for this advisory appointment. Transiting Pluto is stationing at this degree until mid-October, with all these current themes indicating a very potent pivotal time of destiny for our country.

Highly Sensitive Persons -- Are You One?

With the last Solar Eclipse in watery Cancer and Neptune heading towards mystical Pisces, it seems timely to write about high sensitivity. If other people's moods affect you, if you are aware of subtleties in your environment or are easily overwhelmed, then you may be a highly sensitive person (or HSP). HSPs make up about 15-20% of the population, according to Elaine Aron, a psychologist who has written several books on this subject. You can take the test on her website to find out if you fall in this category. I think her website is www.hsperson.com or you can google her name. Finding out that I am an HSP really changed my life. Just knowing that there were other folks who were as sensitive as I am gave me great hope and still does.

A natal chart featuring a prominent Neptune or many water signs may be a likely candidate for this trait. I can usually make a fairly good guess upon meeting someone and seeing their chart if they are likely to have this trait. It does present challenges to be an HSP in our world, but there are ways to work with the difficulties and also to be able to appreciate the many talents and gifts of being an HSP. HSPs resonate well with alternative and energy therapies, such as homeopathy, flower essences, yoga, reiki, polarity healing, etc. As the earth's frequencies intensify, I think that there will be even more HSPs in the near future.

Saturn enters Libra on July 22

The break-up of the Gores reminds us of a new focus coming for relationships when Saturn enters the sign of Libra next month for the next couple of years. This means that our relationship patterns and structures will be in high focus during this period. Saturn's job is to let us know what is or is not working in our lives so we can live in a more authentic way. Many folks have been forming relationships or staying together for more superficial or practical reasons that have nothing to do with their life purpose. This trend will be under scrutiny in the coming years. Saturn in Libra will be requiring us to ask whether our partnership truly supports our life purpose and specifically how it does or does not do that. It will ask us to be honest with ourselves and be ready to take necessary actions even though others may disapprove or it may not be the practical thing to do.

Individuals are undergoing an accelerated rate of growth in recent years, and the intensity is likely to increase in the next couple of years. Many of us are not the same individuals we were 40, 30 or even 20 years ago, as our needs have changed dramatically. Given this amount of inner changes, would we even choose the same partner again? I believe that the success of a relationships does not depend on the length of time it lasts. Many couples come together to support each other in making certain inner changes or to do certain projects together. When these tasks are completed, the momentum to keep the relationship going may not be there. As with the Gores, partners can develop different life goals that do not support their relationship. This also happened to Richard Bach and Leslie Parrish Bach, and also Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins. You can still love this person even though the structure of the relationship changes to more of a friendship. These individuals need to be supported in moving on with their lives. We will be re-examining how we can have more authentic relationships that truly support our growth in the coming two years.

Al and Tipper Gore Decide to Separate

I took a look at their charts when I heard this news. This couple has been married for 40 years, so not an easy decision. Al's moon is getting a direct hit from the transiting cardinal cross, with Pluto on his moon, along with the June 26 lunar eclipse. When Uranus went into the world degree of Aries, it directly squared his moon and they decided to make a public announcement. The moon rules our feelings and close family ties, which undergo drastic changes when impacted by these transits. There was also a news report about another house being purchased -- another lunar reference.

This separation was probably in the works for awhile, as Pluto had opposed Tipper's Uranus back in November 2008. There might have been incidents back then that led to this decision. Pluto is also favorably aspecting her Mercury in Virgo, which has likely led her in a new and more fruitful direction. Perhaps she will write a book.

Watch for more of these sudden unexpected decisions with well-known figures over the next few months.

My New Astrology Blog

Hello and welcome to my new astrology blog! This was easy to set up, so I will begin with this format and see what happens. Stay tuned for the June Astrology Report to be sent out and posted soon.

I will also be posting about current events and people in the news if I see an interesting connection to either their natal chart or present planetary cycles. To begin with, Neptune rules oil and here we are at the beginning of a critical Neptune station with a serious oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico. I will be writing more about this situation in the days to come.

Also see my Eclipse Special to find out how these powerful cosmic events will affect your life in the intense months to come. These eclipses create sensitive points in everyone's chart that are especially potent if they are aligned with a natal planet, especially a personal planet like the sun, moon, Venus, Mercury or Mars.

Thanks for visiting my blog. Stay tuned.
